Valdocco – The Heart of the PGSi Games

Valdocco – Don Bosco’s place of gathering young people was the heart of this year’s International Salesian Youth Games. A simple tent with this name offered shelter to young athletes and volunteers who were spending their free time there.

A tent of hidden treasure of table games and social activities, mental challenges and challenges of physical skills. The young could play badminton, table football and oktafootball. The competitions in setting up a record in walking on arms and on slack-line, jumping with jumping balls and many other challenges were particularly interesting. They trained their brains at the game Four in a row, puzzels and mind games.

The info boards in the tent were covered papers with information about results, bus timetables, schedules and any changes. But the most noticeable was the message board. On the very first day an empty white surface with scetches of national flags soon became more and more full and colorful with messages of young people to other young people.

During the whole day music spread across the tent and the young people danced and sang. They could listen to a mini stand-up comedy, test their acrobatic skills with Fuskabo circus, finish a Scouts’ path of survival and dance to the rhythms of the young band FZL.

During the games, Valdocco represented a secure shelter of connection and fun, in which sporting competitiveness turned into friendly ties, youthful sympathies and openness for the Transcendent.
